As a childcare provider for children under 5, I will be delivering the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage). The EYFS provides a framework for helping children learn and develop to their full potential. Within the EYFS there are 3 Prime and 4 Specific areas of learning and development, which are listed below and how I aim to deliver this.
Prime Areas of Learning and Development:
Communication and language
I will give children opportunities to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves; and to speak and listen in a range of situations.
I will provide opportunities for children to be active and to develop their co-ordination, control, and movement. I will educate Children on the importance of physical activity and making healthy choices when it comes to food.
Personal, social and emotional development
I will help and support children to develop a positive sense of themselves, and others. I will support them in building positive relationships and developing respect for others. Children in my setting will develop social skills and learn how to manage their feelings and to have confidence in their own abilities.
Specific areas of Learning and Development:
I will support and encourage children to link sounds and letters and to begin to read and write. I will provide a variety of books and written materials in order to spark their interest.
I will provide children in my setting with opportunities to develop and improve their skills in counting, understanding and using numbers, calculating simple addition and subtraction problems; and to describe shapes, spaces, and measures.
Understanding the world
It is my job as a Childminder to guide children to make sense of their physical world and their community. I will do this by offering children opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment both locally and into the wider world.
Expressive arts and design
I will offer children in my setting a wide range of media and materials to explore and play with. I will also be providing opportunities and encouragement for sharing their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of activities in art, music, movement, dance, role-play, and design and technology.
